MINUTES OF CHANGE
From the boardroom to the cockpit, and now to the beach! 🏝️
My life is a testament to the beauty of embracing change.
🕴️With a successful 20-year career in finance under my belt in the hustle and bustle of London, I decided to swap my suit for a pilot's uniform. Flying commercially gave me a whole new perspective on the world, literally.
Today, I'm a Career Strategist and YouTuber, living my best life in the tropical paradise of Bali. Yes, you read that right...from crunching numbers in the UK to consulting and vlogging under palm trees! 🌴
In the process, change become my best friend. It's what has enabled me to break free from conventions and follow my passions.
But I'm not just about living the dream. I'm about helping others realise theirs too. That's why with every sunrise I'm committed to helping ambitious professionals break free, embrace their passions, and thrive beyond societal norms and conventions.
Here's why!
I did not openly complain to others. Many times, I was hiding my true feelings behind a facade of being busy and - in the eyes of society - successful. After all, I had my first leadership post aged 23, rose in various positions and organisations quite quickly, and becoming COO of a large financial organisation before I hit 40. Not only was I good at the job I did - I also really enjoyed it. The work played towards my strengths and I loved the variety of every day.
That success that were praising me for did not feel authentic and as a result, neither did I. The only way out seemed to be the big ‘C’. Change. Many - including me - claim they want their life to change for the better, but many of us - including me - do not want to change themselves.
Why? Well, because in most cases, life is ticking over nicely and rocking the boat could have a severe impact on our financial situation, family, friends and — oh, yes… our self-esteem.
I quit. And a long period of nothingness ensued. My interests hobbies and relationships kept me busy but the question remained the same. What does feel authentic? I started to do something completely different. As an already qualified private pilot, I trained to become a commercial pilot.
Financially, maybe not the most sensible choice. Emotionally, it felt good to grow again and apply myself. Looking back, I am incredibly proud of achieving what most would not attempt at the advanced age of 41 - and I am grateful for the many people in my life and in the aviation world who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to realise that life beyond the norm.
After that, a good friend started to talk to me about managing a business in the aviation sector and my business skills and life experience fell into the right place once more.
… this is not the end. I certainly did not notice it at the time but all these changes brought me closer to what really matters to me in life and my professional career. I realised that whatever path we are on, societal norms and people around us cannot define success. It is down to us to fill what we do with purpose, creativity and passion.
When social norms and expectations do not cut it for you anymore and success does not feel right or authentic, you need that friend. A fellow Rebel who encourages you to go from Dread to Dream - despite what everyone else says.
I can’t wait to hear YOUR story.
